- NAP
- Name, address and phone number: the core local business facts that should match everywhere. More
- NOARCHIVE / NOCACHE
- Bing directives: NOARCHIVE keeps a page out of Copilot answers; NOCACHE limits use to URL, title and snippet. More
- noindex
- A robots meta tag or header telling search engines not to index a page, which also removes it from AI features. More
- nosnippet
- A robots directive preventing text snippets; data-nosnippet excludes parts of a page. Both limit AI feature use. More
- OAI-SearchBot
- OpenAI's crawler for ChatGPT search results. More
- People Also Ask
- Google's expandable list of related questions with short answers. More
- PerplexityBot
- Perplexity's crawler for its search index; not used for training, per Perplexity. More
- Prompt injection
- Hidden or embedded text that tries to manipulate an AI system's output; Bing treats it as abuse. More
- Prompt panel
- A fixed set of questions run regularly across AI engines to measure mentions and citations. More
- RAG (retrieval-augmented generation)
- Retrieving relevant documents and generating an answer from them, usually with citations. More
- robots.txt
- A file at a site's root telling crawlers which paths they may fetch; standardized as RFC 9309. More
- sameAs
- A schema.org property listing URLs that identify the same entity, such as official profiles. More
- Scaled content abuse
- Google spam policy against mass-producing pages mainly to manipulate rankings. More
- Schema.org
- A shared vocabulary for structured data, founded by Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and Yandex. More
- Speakable
- Beta schema.org markup identifying news text suitable for text-to-speech on Google Assistant. More
- Structured data
- Machine-readable markup, usually JSON-LD, describing a page's content and entities. More
- User agent
- The name a crawler or browser sends to identify itself, matched by robots.txt rules. More
- Wikidata
- A free, collaborative knowledge base of structured facts run by the Wikimedia Foundation. More
- Zero-click search
- A search that ends without a click to any website, often because the answer appeared on the results page. More
